German composer and organist, Michael Praetorius was one of the great Lutheran composers. After a spell as Kapellmeister in Lunebourg, he became organist, Kapellmeister and secretary to the Duke of Brunswick from 1604 to 1613. His vast output includes more than 1200 motets and chorales.
