Sylvius Léopold WEISS (1684-1750)
Lutist, theorbist and German composer. JF Reichardt writes in 1805, about competition between the musicians in Dresden: "Everyone who knows how difficult it is to play modulations and good counterpoints on the lute will be astonished and will hardly believe the eyewitnesses that ensure us that the great lutist of Dresden, Sylvius Léopold Weiss, made a competition with Johann Sebastien Bach, great harpsichorist and organist, in playing fantasies and fugues."
