Ferdinando CARULLI (1770-1841)

guitare du luthier Pierre Pacherel (1834)Italian guitarist, pedagogue and composer born in Naples. Young Carulli first learned the violoncello from an instructor, then the guitar self-taight. He started to publish his first works for guitar with Ricordi in 1807. After a stay in Vienna, Ferdinando Carulli settled in Paris in 1808. At that time, he was the leading guitarist of in the French capital and attracted clients from the nobility and upper middle classes. About 1810 he met Filippo Gragnani with whom he became friends. He composed a famous method (opus 27) as well as many pieces (approximately 400) for guitar, a concerto opus 8, as well as duets and trios.
