Luigi Rinaldo LEGNANI (1790-1877)

guitare du luthier Louis Panormo (1822)Italian guitarist, singer and composer. he begins his musical studies with the voice and the guitar at the eight years age. his debut with the theatre of Ravenne at the 17 years age, he then sang arias from the operas of Donizetti and Rossini. In 1819, his first work was published by Ricordi (Milan). In 1822 he undertook a first tour of Europe. his career continued it in Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France and Russia. In 1835 he came to Genoa where he met Paganini and gives some duet concerts (advertisements of their benefit concerts at the theatre of Corignano in Turin, June 9, 1837). In 1838 Legnani gave concerts in Dresden, then in Vienna, and the following year in Munich. In 1842 he moved to Spain, playing in Madrid and Barcelona. his concert activity lasted at least until 1850. In this year he returned to Italy and established himself in Ravenne, the town of its childhood. He continued a second career as a violin maker there, an activity which it had already begun in 1833 in Vienna with the builder Stauffr. In Ravenne he built violins and guitars of good quality, of which some still exist. He died at his home on August 5, 1877, after a long and profitable career. Legnani was a prolific composer, his output includes 250 works. He was published by the principal European editors of 1819 to 1850.
